How to Protect Yourself from Bugs This Summer
The summer months are a time to relax and enjoy the warm weather. However, it is also a time during which bugs and other pests thrive. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you understand how to keep yourself, your family, and your pets safe from them.
While Doing Yard Work
It is possible for bees and wasps to create nests in your garage and shed. It is also possible for them to create nests in trees and other outdoors spots on your property. To keep yourself safe, be sure to look for signs of infestations such as dozens of bees or wasps flying in one central location. To get rid of a nest, wait until it gets dark outside and spray directly into the opening. Alternatively, you can spray at the nest from a distance, and using soda or other sugary items can also serve as wasp or bee bait. Just make sure that you aren’t too close to the nests when you spray the nests.
At the Beach
Going to the beach is the quintessential American summer activity. Boasting a wide variety of activities, it's no wonder that the beach attracts so many visitors. This includes both humans and insects such as mosquitoes and flies. You can also keep pests away by covering your skin or going inside for food or drinks for a portion of the day.
During a Camping Trip
Camping is also something a lot of people do in the summer. It’s a great American tradition that lots of people enjoy—especially on summer holidays. Unfortunately, campers and their food can be easy targets for bugs. Make sure not to leave food out, as ants and other bugs will be attracted to it. If you’re going hiking on your camping trip, make sure to wear long pants so you don’t get bitten by bugs on the ground and in any plants you might walk through.
While at Work
Whether you work indoors or outdoors, it is possible that bugs could become a problem. Construction workers, farmers and others who work outside may have to deal with many different varieties of stinging insects. Those who work indoors may also have to contend with ants, silverfish or spiders that could bite or contaminate food in the office refrigerator. Make sure to carry bug spray or know where to find some if an infestation occurs. Furthermore, be sure that your food is properly sealed, and if you think that bugs have gotten into your lunch, throw it away instead of risking food poisoning.
While you shouldn't be afraid of insects, it is important to take proper precautions if you encounter them. The use of sprays or other products can help to keep yourself and your property safe until the bugs go dormant again in the fall and winter. And if you do get bitten or stung, use the Bug Bite Thing to relieve itching quickly!
